Shadowman

The Coven is a group of practitioners of the mystic arts who seek to rid the world from the presence of Master Darque, a 19th Century necromancer. To achieve their goal, the Coven has created the Shadowman, a dark-vested hero who they endow with a spell that makes him immune to harm from Master Darque’s magic.

When night falls, Shadowman is stronger, fearless, driven to take action, and dangerous. The power within him that makes him as powerful as Master Darque urges him to embrace the darkness of the night and claim it as him own. The Coven endows Shadowman with necromantic energy that grants him increased strength and allows him to glide and regenerate.

The Coven's power blocks Master Darque from approaching their ceremonies and conceals their identities from his reprisals. And additionally, they have placed a block that prevents Master Darque from travelling through time.

The Coven

In a bid to rid the world from the presence of Master Darque, a 19th Century necromancer, the Coven creates the first Shadowman, a dark-vested hero they endow with a spell that makes him immune to harm from Master Darque’s magic.

In 1895, in a ceremony in the the bayou, a place of magic and mystery, the Coven marks Maxim St. James, a gambler, with a mark that symbolizes the Loa within his soul that comes out at night to fight and instills him with necromantic energy that gives him increased strength and allows him to glide and regenerate. To the Coven’s dismay, Maxim defies them and rejects his duty to stop Darque, and, through unknown circumstances, he vanishes and does not reappear until 1994.

When Master Darque and his sister, Sandria Darque, resurface after half a decade spent underground, Anjenetta Grampion, a powerful Voodoo priestess who plays a leading role in the conflict against Master Darque, chooses Jack Boniface, a jazz player, to become Shadowman.

In an effort to taint Jack, his would-be nemesis, Darque enlists the Spider Aliens, a race of blood-sucking extraterrestrial arachnoids, who poison Jack to limit his use of the Darque Power, a form of necromantic energy that gives him increased strength and allows him to glide and regenerate.

Learning of the aliens’ meddling, Anjenetta infuses an ordinary Mardi Gras mask with the Darque Power to allow Jack to acquire his abilities gradually. Exploiting the Coven’s power to block Master Darque from approaching their ceremonies and conceal their identities from his reprisals, Anjenetta poses as Jack’s housekeeper to guide his transformation and gives him a costume with a sigil that symbolizes the Loa within his soul that comes out at night to fight.

When night falls, Maxim and Jack are stronger, fearless, driven to take action, and dangerous. The power within them that makes them as powerful as Master Darque urges them to embrace the darkness of the night and claim it as their own for Shadowman.
